Project Objective
The goal of the project is to design and build a remote controlled boat and controller capable of operating in shallow waters. The BYT(ER) Operator And Transporter (BOAT) is the boat, and the BAY Over-Seas Yeoman Navigator (BOSYN) is the controller. Each BOSYN must be able to control other team's BOATs by using a common class-wide communication protocol.
Our BOAT with its BYT(ER) extended.
The Game
At the start of each game, each BOAT is assigned as a Haddock aNd Trout Revolution (HNTR) or Pollock Rescue Express Initiative (PREI). The PREI have an inflated Balloon Attached Yn Tow (BAYT) attached to the aft of the BOAT. The HNTRs have a BAYT Yngestion Tool (Extended Reach) (BYT(ER)) that can be used to pop the balloon. The BYT(ER) can be extended past the BOAT to pop the balloon when activated by the BOSYN. The PREI must try to get across Terman Fountain without their BAYT being popped by the HNTRs.

Gems of Wisdom
- Get communication working robustly early so that you can focus on debugging other features.
- Using a wheel for providing yaw provides very intuitive steering for boats.
- It is very difficult to waterproof electronics below the waterline. Avoid putting electronics underwater or prepare to spend significant time to waterproof.
- Ensure to spend a considerable amount of time brainstorming the various ways in which the system can be designed.
- Remember to use silicone instead of hot glue to waterproof things.
- Keep the electrical system design simple and modular.
- Ensure to have backup plans for critical parts in the system.
- It is a good idea to have regular meetings in which all the team members are present to touch base on everything.
- Ensure to have easy access to the batteries and the fuse.
